Couldn’t help myself with this beautiful folder. Soon as I saw it I had to have it! Its not every day you get find a Grant and Gavin Hawk knife made to this level of quality for the price that Zero Tolerance offers their folders at. There is no doubt in my mind that Zero Tolerance offers the best bang for buck as far as production folders are concerned on the market.

When I saw the folder and opened it it only took me about 2 seconds – no wait, make that 1 second to decide that I was buying it. A great bargain at just over a buck and a half ($160), and it is a great cutter. I used it today to open up the box of my new CD player… worked great. I kind of wish that the blade steel was S30V rather than 154CM, but for the price I can’t really complain. The blade is coated with a Tungsten DLC coating, and a slight clip point.

The G-10 handles are aggressively textured, and the pocket clip will rip a hole in your jeans after a while. One complaint I have about the pocket clip is that it is not as solid as I would like I guess since it is a deep pocket clip with only 1 screw holding it in. It also has what looks like a ball on the end for breaking glass or something. I’m not sure. The G-10 handles also have machining around the edges and in the middle of it that give it a stepped look.

There are also some small details like where the plunge grind is on the blade, there is a stepped design on the ricasso as well. Thumbstuds are massive disks for ambidexturous opening. Blade centers perfectly and doesn’t budge one bit. The lock design is something from Grant and Gavin Hawk. It is designed so that no dirt and muck can get into the folder and affect the lock or anything else. The pivot is sealed with neoprene and the lock release is surrounded with a rubber damn so no crud can get in. The lock itself is completely incased within the pivot and handle scales. It is kind of like a one-sided Axis Lock but sealed within the pivot.

The Mudd 0500 is definately another winner from the guys at Zero Tolerance. It’s made in USA like all of their products and mine is production dated at January 2008. Not bad. Wasn’t more than a month old before I got it!

Steel: 154CM
Handle: Aluminum with G-10 Overlays
Blade Length: 3 3/4″
Overall Length: 8 7/8″
Weight: 4.9 oz. (Actual 6.5oz)

I picked up the ZT 302 folder not long ago from a local store. The first time i saw these folders I was very impressed by the design, looking very much like Ken Onion and Strider put it together – which is exactly what it is. I picked the Tan over the Olive Drab because I think it looks much better, but that’s subjective. I don’t think anyone can argue that this isn’t one of the nicest production tactical folders out there, however.

This knife absolutely floors me for value. Its made extremely well, and has very nicely machined details such as the textured scales and framelock. A hinderer lockbar stabilizer and ultra-thick handles and a full black G-10 backspacer. There is also a scale on the G-10 handle side that houses the speed safe mechanism, I believe.

If I were to get just one knife to carry, I think this one would be it. Its a bigger folder, but with the ergonomic lines of the handle and the textured grip its not only comfortable in the hand, but has exceptional purchase and retention. The wide blade profile allows the blade to be useful for very large cutting chores and the wide handle profile means better blade control

High-quality S30V steel, with the Strider tiger striping and Ken Onion designed recurve blade and speed assisted opening system. The blade also has a trigger to fire it open. This knife has it all! The blade is not quite as thick as some of Strider’s other offerings such as the AR/GB knives, but is almost as thick as the SnG… just a HAIR thinner.

When I first received my ZT0302 there was a tiny bit of blade play in the closed position only due to the pivot not being tight enough. I tightened it up and now there is no blade play in any positions and the knife still fires crisply. Very nice. Highly recommended!

Blade Length: 4 1/4″
Overall Lenght: 9″
Blade Material: S30V
Handle Material: Coyote Tan G-10
Weight: 8.6 oz
