Spyderco Q C35 Knife [video]
I received this Spyderco Q knife in a trade with a fellow on the rec.knives newsgroup many years ago named SPECOPS. He was a great guy and now and again I wonder what happened to the guy. I’m sure he’s around somewhere… he used to be a Spyderco rep of some sort. I traded him something for the Q, since it was such a neat litlte collector’s knife and it has risen in value substantially since I received it.
I don’t really ever plan to part with this guy, even though imitations and psuedo re-releases have come out. It reminds me of the older days of Spyderco, where not every knife had to be a collaboration in order to sell. The Spyderco Q knife is possibly the lightest locking folder that I have ever held that was of a decent size. The lock isn’t exactly the most secure, however and the design allows for some structural flaws such as torquing of the handle.
Having said that, it really doesn’t take a lot away from the knife because its not really meant to be a user. The Q knife is for fun, and is a collector’s knife. Sure, it’s light enough you can carry it around without noticing it but with all the variations made for promotional purposes its easy to see how the knife became popular. It looks cool!
Some may argue that its ugly and a cheesy design, and maybe it is, but its a cute little knife that has it’s place in the knife world. It has a removeable and repositionable wire pocket clip, laser cut 440C Stainless blade, FRN Handles, crappy lockback type lock.
